Final Fantasy XV broke even on day one

Written by Brayden — 07 Feb 2017

Final Fantasy XV director, Hajime Tabata has revealed to DualShockers that Final Fantasy XV broke even on the day of launch.

Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XV had surpassed 5 million copies shipped including digital sales on day one and followed that up with over 6 million in January.

With that in mind, it means Square Enix is seeing a profit on the game already.

However it's also worth pointing out this most likely doesn't include development costs during the Versus XIII era as Tabata has previously asked people to reset the development clock to when he joined the project in about mid 2012 and it shifted to PlayStation 4 & Xbox One and became Final Fantasy XV.

Regardless, congrats to Square Enix as this continues a long streak of mainline Final Fantasy games breaking even on day one not including MMOs.
